KTDA Management yesterday held discussions with the County Government of Kakamega officials over a partnership to establish a new Tea Factory in the county.

Present during the consultative meeting were Abungana Khasiani KTDA Board Member and Director for Zone 12  (Bungoma,Kakamega, and Vihiga), Wilson Muthaura KTDA Holdings Group Chief Executive Officer, Ayub Savula, the area Deputy Governor, KTDA Legal Team, and Kakamega County officials.

Laikipia County government led by Governor Joshua Irungu and his deputy Reuben yesterday held a consultative meeting with officials from the 105 cooperative societies from Laikipia East and North sub-counties.

The meeting, organised by the Department of Trade  deliberated on the ways of enhancing their capacity to offer solution-based services to their members.

They noted that Cooperative societies play a strategic role in uplifting the livelihoods of our community members.

In Laikipia, there are 210 registered cooperatives, membership of over 98,000 and a total asset base of Ksh7.4 billion.

The farmers leaders noted that they offer services that are adaptive to the needs of their members, creating an equitable distribution of wealth through farming, aggregation of produce for value addition, promoting a saving culture as well as offering low-priced loans.

Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Abdi Hassan and Eastern Counterpart Paul Rotich warned politicians against financing criminals, addressed cattle rustling, and deployed security officers. Over 200 firearms were surrendered, and Samburu County yielded to government amnesty. Rotich challenged pastoralist communities to stop outdated practices and directed disarming NPRs.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has praised the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) for its progress in creating relevant, globally competitive, and portable qualifications that enable labor and skill mobility. The move was made during the inauguration of a 10-member KNQA Council, chaired by former Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis. The new Council members include representatives from various sectors, including Technical Vocation, Education, and Training, The National Treasury, Basic/Early Learning, Commission for University Education, TVETA, and the Central Organisation of Trade Unions. The KNQA is also working on key reforms in the education and training sectors to enhance relevance, equity, and access to education, leading to decent employment and living. The new Council members, who will serve for three years starting October 19, 2023, are expected to seize opportunities and make National Qualifications operational in the changing world. KNQA Chairperson Stanley Kiptis assured the PS that the Authority is ready to develop all required national policies for the implementation of the qualification framework.
