Farmers Party Chairman Irungu Nyakera has exuded confidence in President William Ruto administration especially his concern for the agricultural sector.
Only yesterday, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua flagged off a consignment of Affordable Fertilizer to aid in boosting agricultural productivity and eventually ensuring food security.
In a Tweet, Mr Nyakera observed,
“Friends, it is commendable that efforts are being made to improve our agricultural sector. Agriculture plays an important role in promoting rural development because it promotes economic growth, job creation, poverty reduction, and environmental protection. In addition, agriculture is one of the key drivers for economic growth in Kenya and therefore plays an important role in contributing towards poverty reduction by providing employment opportunities for people who otherwise would be unemployed.”
in his inauguration speech, the President had made a public pledge to lower fertiliser prices from the current Sh6,500 to Sh3,500 per 50-kilogram bag.
“High prices of fertiliser are one of the main reasons the cost of food has become unaffordable”, Dr Ruto said repeatedly during his campaign for the presidency, “and we will lower it when elected.”
