Nyeri County governor Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga is today expected to appear before a Senate Select Committee to answer audit queries raised by Auditor General over running of water companies based in Nyeri and Othaya towns.
The governor and some CECs in his government are appearing before the Senate Committee on Public Investments and Special Funds (CPISFC), Chaired by Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.
The Nyeri team summons shall form the committee’s inaugural meeting since the advent of the counties to St and consider audit queries raised by the Auditor General on County Investments.
“The County Governor of Nyeri H.E Mutahi Kahiga and Nyeri County Executives are expected to appear tomorrow, Nov 22nd, before the Committee to respond to the audit queries raised by the Auditor General regarding water investment companies in the County,” stated part of statement released by Parliament last evening.
The water companies under scrutiny are Othaya Mukurwe-Ini Water Services Limited ( OMWASCO) and Nyeri Water and Sanitation Limited (NYEWASCO).
OMWASCO serves residents of Othaya and Mukurwe-ini constituencies while NYEWASCO serves Nyeri Town constituency as well as parts of Kieni and Mathira constituencies.
Yesterday, the Osotsi chaired committee had a sitting in preparation for today’s maiden session.
Among the senators present were Prof Tom Ojienda, Ladema Olekina, Maurine Mutinda, Hamidag Kibwana and Sen Eddy Oketch.
