STANLEY KANDIE EMERGES WINNER OF BASE YETU POOL ELDORET TOURNAMENT

Stanley Kandie emerged the winner of a Pool game tournament sponsored by a private entity, Base Yetu in Eldoret town at the weekend.
Due to his steering performance, Kandie was gifted with a cash prize of Sh30,000 courtesy of Base Yetu Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nick Mararo who was represented by one of his aides.
The tournament, held at home of Champions’ Foxy’s Wagon Wheel Hotel in Eldoret had attracted over 100 competitors.
The town was brought to a standstill as Base Yetu caravan snaked its way to the hotel for the second leg of the competition.
Artist David Mwabili, who is popularly known as Inspector Mwala led other artists and entertainers in sensitising Eldoret residents in particular and Kenyans in general on the need to embrace Pool game as a sporting activity like they do to football, volleyball, darts, netball and athletics among other games.
“Pool is a game just like football or athletics. It is making youth busy, take away from crime and make them earn a living,” Inspector Mwala said after the tournament that ended late on Saturday night.
Just like the Base Yetu CEO Nick Mararo had noted last week when he graced the first tournament, those who attended the weekend event called on the government to consider funding the game like it does to other sporting activities.
During the weekend tournament, Solomon Mutuma emerged second best during the event that saw eight participants including those with disabilities awarded for their outstanding performance.
Among those who took part in the tournament despite having various bodily challenges included Victor Muloli who has hearing impairment and Kevin Boen who despite walking in crutches came out as an outstanding referee.
Pool game is by the day becoming popular among people of all ages, but is mostly loved by the youth.
Base Yetu has in the recent past organized such interactive tournaments in various parts of the country.
Youths support Mararo’s call for the government to invest in the game saying it another way of actively and positively engaging the young people most of whom are jobless.
