The Dark Moon

The Mount Kenya Times

Collaborative poem from Zimbabwean

Poets-

Norman Mwale [The PenPusher]

Stephen Mupoto [Ngugi Wamkiri]

Β

Strains in the dark orbit,

Hyenas singsonging

their eldritch laughters,

That conjure no death of darkness.

They loaf about,

Clawing the moon’s face

That now bleeds barren tears,

As the foxes claw at the seam

Of darkness,

Death beckons in silence,

As predators chit-chat

Their evoking calls,

As to a feast of tamed prey.

The long moon still bleeds,

And portends death,

As it sticks to a sanguine orbit,

Where it dies still!
