Use Integrity To End Sexual Gender-Based Violence In The Institutions

The aspect of gender imbalance arose about 8000 years ago. Where the male gender was more valuable than the female gender who was treated with violence. By the early 19th century it became a world concern that was alarming and demanded swift and quick intervention, making The United Nations (UN) chip in, and bring about some lucrative advancements in gender equality.
On the contrary, globally we have a weakness, that is, we overdo things until they lose their valuable values making them another menace. Date rapes, sexual violence and harassment are becoming a threat in most of our Universities and Colleges especially to ladies and men in various institutions in different parts of the nation. This can be defined as physically, verbally, emotionally, psychologically or sexually abused to both or either of the genders.
About 40% of students in tertiary Institutions have found themselves in dating violence in different romantic relationships, and the victims are always fond of blaming themselves, facing embarrassment and being absorbed by fear in most cases. In line with the same, about 29% and above of women are faced with the aspects and traces of date rapes, and relatively 52% and above of university and college men are sexually aggressive while on a first date. This behaviour is common, sometime after their admission into various institutions, when they are more likely to trust others and may be engaging in social encounters outside the supervision of their parents.
Alcoholism has led to most date rape and SGBVs; alcohol consumption and sexual assault is a menace that is growing and rising drastically in most of our tertiary Institutions, through unnecessary parties and clubbing. Some of the students in various tertiary Institutions are hardly eighteen years of age, some are admitted using their birth certificates due to lack of national identity cards; thereafter, they are swayed into alcoholism making them vulnerable to date rape and SGBVs.
This practice is done in a professional way that is through peers, faculty or coursemates. Therefore, making the victims or the affected to be emotionally and physically used as far as sexual harassment is concerned. Upon my Christian perceptions, Jesus turned water into wine, meaning initially the content was water; then the water was turned into wine which is valuable.
To all youths let’s avoid too much unnecessary excitements that may affect your brighter future. Stand for and say “No” to drugs and substance abuse, Avoid unnecessary “romantic” relationships that may interfere with your emotions and alter studies perceptions; just be patient, everything has its own designated time. Finally, maintain Personal Integrity and self-discipline as your first individual principles; making your future to be on the safer side. It’s my pride to see my fellow youths excel and succeed in life.
