At least 10 per cent of girls schooling in Nyandarua County are at the risk of dropping out of school due to lack hygienic supplies.
The girls start by missing classes before eventually dropping out, it has been revealed.
“One in 10 adolescent girls in Nyandarua misses class and eventually drops out of school for lack of hygiene kits,”, the county First Lady Grace Kiarie disclosed yesterday.
Speaking in Ol’Kalou and Ndaragwa sub-counties on her second day of mentoring and issuing of the hygienic kits, she further noted that like their male counterparts, girls across the County require support to pursue courses of their choice.
She has visited dozens of learning institutions in the county.
Some of the Institutions include Rurii Primary School (Rurii Ward), Ritaya Primary School (Kiriita Ward), Ndogino Primary School (Leshau Pondo Ward), Ndaragwa Primary School (Central Ward) and Ol’Bollosat Primary School (Shamata Ward).
She was acompanied by among others, the County Executive Committee Member for Education, Children, Gender Affairs, Culture and Social Services Cecilia Wangari Kirira and Kiriita Member of the County Assembly Milkah Wanjiru.
She assured the residents that more schools across Nyandarua will benefit from the initiative.
