Former Nyeri County First Lady Margaret Karungaru Gachagua remains a frontrunner for the position of Women Representative in the National Assembly.
Ms Karungaru, is ridding on her tenure’s deeds where among other things, she was instrumental in initiating projects, particularly targeting women and children and others on health sector that have continued to benefit locals to date.
Ms Karungaru is in the race for seat as an Independent candidate has footprints in every part of the county and hopes to rely on them to woe voters to support her, come August 9 when the General Election will be held.
In her meetings, she has continued to urge Nyeri voters to elect leaders depending on their ability to work for them instead of being guided by political party euphoria, a common phenomenon during every electioneering period.

Mrs Gachagua, a former High School Principal is an alumni of Alliance Girls High School & University of Nairobi.
During the late Nderitu tenure, she traversed the county championing for the interests women, youth and marginalized groups and is riding on these issues to endear herself with the electorate.
She is popular across Nyeri county and remains an icon in her capacity as first Nyeri County first lady having helped define the role of that title and privilages that come with it, a record that still stands to outshine itself.
Despite the county having had three other governors since the demise of Gachagua, there has not been any other active County First Lady.
The late Gachagua was replaced by his deputy, Ambassador Samuel Wamathai who wife was seen just once; when he was being sworn in.
A similar scenario was replicated when the late Dr Wahome Gakuru became the third governor after the 2017 General Election and also when the incumbent Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga was sworn in as the fourth governor.
Although she has through National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) initiated several projects targeting the less privileged in the county, Ms Mukami has not appealed well to the electorate with many saying she was unable to fit the shoes of her predecessor Wakili Priscila Nyokabi.
The Jubilee’s aspirant was in the ballot in 2017 as a running mate for Patrick Maina Munene who was seeking gubernatorial position. They performed dismally and hence she may not have big impact as she has nothing else to show.
Ms Wahome and Ms Waikundi are greenhorns in the political arena.
