Zambian Parliamentary Committee On Parastatal Bodies Visits Kenya For Benchmarking Mission
The Clerk of Kenya’s National Assembly, Mr. Samuel Njoroge yesterday hosted a delegation from the Zambian Parliamentary Committee on Parastatal Bodies, currently in the country for benchmarking.
The visit aims to enhance legislative oversight and improve the performance of public institutions in Zambia.
The committee plays a crucial role in examining reports from the Auditor General on the financial and operational performance of Zambia’s parastatal bodies and other statutory institutions.
The Zambian lawmakers are expected to engage with their counterparts in the National Assembly of Kenya to exchange insights and share best practices in legislative matters.
Speaking when he welcomed the visitors, Mr. Njoroge highlighted the strong and historic bonds between Kenya and Zambia.
The discussions focused on several key areas of mutual interest, including the mandate, structure, and working procedures of Kenya’s oversight committee on parastatal bodies. Other topics included the committee’s collaboration with the Office of the Auditor-General, mechanisms for tracking and implementing committee recommendations, and institutional frameworks that support effective oversight.
Mr. Njoroge also provided an overview of how Kenya’s audit-related committees function, noting that the Constitution mandates them to review Auditor General reports and submit their findings within 90 days.
The Zambian delegation was led by Dr. Chitalu Chilufya, MP (Chairperson), and included Mrs. Mutinta C. Mazoka, MP (Vice Chairperson), Mr. Brian Kambita, MP, Mr. Mubita B. Anakoka, MP, Mr. Anthony Kasandwe, MP, Mr. Vumango P. Musumali, MP, Ms. Julien Nyemba, MP, Mr. Stephen Kampyongo, MP, Mr. Brian Mundubile, MP, Mr. Hebert Mapani, MP, and Ms. Carol Ndoti, Committee Clerk and Secretary to the Delegation.
