Revenue authority beats October target on the back of business rebound and record customs haul
By Grace Wanja
The Kenya Revenue Authority collected KSh260.63B in October, posting 15.5 per cent growth year-on-year and crossing the KSh1 trillion cumulative mark a full month ahead of previous financial years.
Total cumulative collections by end of October reached KSh1.010 trillion, with the monthly figure surpassing the KSh258.304B target by 0.9 per cent — a surplus of KSh2.327B. The October growth rate nearly doubled the 8 per cent recorded in the same month last year and more than doubled the 6.5 per cent posted in October 2024, signalling a meaningful shift in the economy’s revenue-generating capacity.
KRA’s Customs department recorded its highest-ever monthly revenue haul, raising KSh94.793B — eclipsing the previous record of KSh92.527B set in July this year. Domestic VAT collections reached KSh33.367B, registering 22.1 per cent growth, while the manufacturing, wholesale, transportation and electricity sectors together drove roughly 80 per cent of corporation tax revenue during the month.
Excise duty on alcoholic beverages proved a significant engine, with wine growing 110.8 per cent and spirits 94.1 per cent month-on-month. The numbers suggest that Kenya’s businesses are spending again — and that the taxman, for now, is keeping pace.
