Zimbabwe–Residents of KweKwe, a city at the counter field of the country have expressed major concern and sulky disgruntlement upon the inconsistence of reticulation water supplies rendered by the local City council which they believe is inharmonious.
According to trusted sources, some residents of Mbizo, Amaveni, Torwood and Rutendo high density surburbs were starved of having a steady supply of water since the beginning of last year.
One disgruntled resident and former shadow Councilor to the defunct political party on opposition side, the ‘National Patriotic Front (NPF) Mrs Mavambo Rushwaya was quoted as saying: “Most women are exposed to danger especially when they wake up at weird midnight hours to scavenge for water so can sustain their families.” She emphatically further stated that during this despicable scenarios; (state of affairs) most defenseless women and children continue to fall prey to rape and other molds of abuse and wretchedness.
Meanwhile another source who requested anonymity for fear of victimisation said, we are drinking unprotected and dirty water. Primarily women and their teen girls are seen laden with water buckets ahead of time every morning on their way back home from the unprotected ponds and shallow wells for grey (murky) water since they don’t have any other alternatives. Sometimes when the water drips temporarily from our house hold water tapes, it looks filthy and unhealthy for human consumption.
He said the local municipality council is not showing concerned on the welfare of its residents but only aspire to collect stupendous revenue and swell their coffers by delivering shoddy services through maltreating the innocent residents.
Residents are calling upon the KweKwe City council authorities to upgrade its working equipment, regenerate its reticulation pipes and desist from the inferior workmanship and establish services that create a gilded environment for all.
