Christ Kingdom Ministries International takes its discipleship mission deep into rural Zimbabwe, ordaining a new pastor and planting roots in Chikokonya village

A Pentecostal church based in Kwekwe, Zimbabwe, took its gospel mission deep into the rural hinterland last weekend, hosting a three-day spiritual crusade that drew families, youths and community leaders to a remote village in Guruve district. Christ Kingdom Ministries International, through its newly established branch CKMI Faith Assembly in Chikokonya village, held the outreach from 30 October to 1 November, bringing sustained religious programming to one of the country’s more isolated communities.
The crusade centred on the theme Kingdom Life, anchored in the church’s core mission drawn from Matthew 28:19-20: “Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all nations.” Preaching was led by Bishop Cecilia Kandemiiri, supported by a dedicated team comprising Reverend N. Makani, Overseer T. Chamunorwa, Evangelists Chademana and Madhara, Reverend S. Matsa and Student Pastor C. Maseko. Messages focused on salvation, restoration, deliverance and Christian hope, drawing congregants from several denominations across the surrounding area. Word-rooted teachings were directed particularly at younger attendees, aiming to instil positive moral values and a spirit of resilience within what remains an agrarian, tight-knit community.
Both daytime and evening services attracted strong attendance, with the atmosphere shaped by a mix of contemporary gospel music and traditional Shona worship choruses. Participants engaged in communal praise, dance and collective worship, and several attendees made first-time commitments to the Christian faith during the three days. The blend of spiritual intensity and cultural familiarity appeared to resonate strongly with a congregation that spans generations and denominational backgrounds.
The crusade’s most significant and enduring moment came with the formal ordination of Elder Mucheki, a founding member of the Chikokonya assembly and one of its most committed congregants, as its substantive pastor. The appointment places the new rural congregation under permanent, resident spiritual leadership and formally consolidates CKMI’s presence in Guruve. Speaking at the close of the crusade, Kandemiiri expressed warm gratitude to the entire preaching team for their contributions and said the impact of the outreach would continue to resonate long after the final service ended. She described it as laying strong foundations for ongoing spiritual growth, unity and community transformation within Guruve’s farming settlements.
Looking ahead, Christ Kingdom Ministries International has announced concrete plans to construct a permanent assembly building at the Chikokonya worship site. The project forms part of the church’s broader socio-spiritual upliftment programme, which seeks to bring not only religious instruction but also moral and community development to Zimbabwe’s more remote districts. Roadmaps for further consolidation revivals in Guruve are already being drawn up, with the church indicating that the district will remain a priority area for follow-up ministry.
The church’s reach extends well beyond Guruve. Christ Kingdom Ministries International was founded by Kandemiiri on 15 August 2010, following 18 years of ministry under Awake Grace Ministries in Zimbabwe and abroad. Guided by the instruction recorded in Acts 1:8 β to be witnesses “to the end of the earth” β the church has consistently targeted communities with limited access to organised religious programming. Its outreach philosophy prioritises depth over spectacle, focusing on discipleship and long-term community engagement rather than large urban events.
Supporting that mission is the Christian Institute of Theological Studies, CKMI’s theological training school, which operates as an extension campus of New Life Temple Bible College in El Paso, Texas, itself affiliated with Logos University in the United States. The institution equips pastors and ministry workers with formal biblical training, strengthening the church’s capacity to sustain and lead the congregations it plants across the region.
With additional outreach programmes scheduled across Zimbabwe and beyond its borders throughout 2027, the ministry says its mandate remains unchanged: to reach spiritually underserved communities, make disciples across nations and honour God through the teaching of what it describes as the true, undiluted gospel of Jesus Christ.
In Chikokonya village, that mission now has a permanent home β and a pastor to shepherd it forward.
