Interior security cabinet secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi officially launched new Chiakariga Sub County that will see residents from the area benefit from government resources that comes along with issuance of such a unit.
The unit will now leave formally Tharaka South Sub County divided into Tharaka Central and now the new Chiakariga sub county.
The issuance comes few months after Agriculture cabinet secretary Peter Munya visited the region to inspect national government projects where residents asked him to ensure the unit is granted as president Uhuru Kenyatta promised residents in 2017 campaigns.
Speaking during a public baraza at Chiakariga Chief’s camp Matiangi said that the new sub county will see the next recruitment of security officers done at Chiakariga, a thing that will see additional number of recruits compared to past scenarios where the region shared Marimanti recruitment centre.
On the stalled national government projects in the county, Matiangi promised to ensure that the governments completes them before his term lapses for residents from the county to benefit like others.
Matiangi called upon residents to remain peaceful amid campaigns and avoid being used by politicians who want to use them politically.
Agriculture C.S Peter Munya castigated those making rounds accusing Uhuru’s government of underperformance saying it should be commended for the great work it is has been doing to Kenyans, even as they ask for more projects.
He said they will work towards ensuring pending national government projects in the county are completed to empower constituents.
Tharaka Nithi senator Professor Kithuure Kindiki commended the government for issuing the new unit and asked residents to accept it with open hands as they have been yearning for it.
However he hit out at government to complete roads tarmacking in the county that stalled at Tharaka Nithi boarder points plunging locals into deplorable roads.
Governor Njuki said the unit is a big boost in the county as it translates to more resources allocation that will greatly help residents.
On the other hand, Igambang’ombe Sub County hangs on the balance following a petition that saw it nullified by Chuka court over unprocedural public participation.
The court then gave 90 days for compliance after after which the unit will be reinstated or completely scrapped off.
