As the D-day for this year’s General Election nears, the electorate has been urged to ignore political parties and elect leaders on their own merit.
Speaking during the funeral service of the late Simon Wachira “Dawanol” who represented Stadium ward in Karatina municipality in the previous dispensation, Nyeri Senator Engineer Ephraim Maina said that parties stand for nothing in this country but mere vehicles to acquire power.
“Unlike in America and other developed countries, parties stand for nothing other than being vehicles to get seats”, lamented the Senator who has declared his interest to be the next governor in the county.
Maina decried the appalling lack of drugs, personnel and equipment in public health facilities that has caused unnecessary deaths that should have otherwise avoided.
On development, the senator said that residents dad been impoverished by lack of agenda where coffee, tea and milk that were the mainstay of the local economy has stalled though agriculture is fully devolved.
“We must revive the economy of this great county by empowering the farmers by subsidising farm inputs for at least two years”, said the Senate chair of Energy Committee adding that only a focused leadership can achieve that.
Gubernatorial aspirant and industrialist Thuo Mathenge aired similar sentiments saying the county dwellers deserved better services than they were currently being accorded.
Mathenge who is also the chairman of The New Democrats (TND) political party urged the residents to elect a governor who has invested and resides in the county who understands and shares their problems.
Among those that attended the service included former councillors James Kibira, Kariithi Kinyua, Bildad Mithamo, former MCAs led by Baragu Mutahi of Mathari/Kiganjo ward and current MCAs led by area representative Watson Weru among others.
