Mwai Kibaki, Ngilu, Wamalwa

Even before the opposition politics was officially allowed in the country, the then Othaya Member of Parliament Mwai Kibaki emerged in the shadows of would be possible alternative leaders in the country.
Kibaki’s politocal history dates back to the days when the country through various leaders was agitating for its freedom.
Although young and schooling then, those in the forefront of calling for the country’s self-rule had identified him as a possible and indeed crucial part of the yet to be formed establishment that would steer the country forward.
This is how he was plucked from his teaching job, a few years before the country gained independence.
Kibaki continued to seve in the Government in different capacities until December 1991 when he resigned and formed one of the opposition parties, DP.

He formed this party alongside other likeminded leaders from different parts of the country with a clear mission of liberating the country from the then ruling,Β Β Kanu misrule.
He was not luck to rule the country as he lost in two subsequent general elections of 1992 and 1997. During the 1992 elections, he emerged third after the Incumbent Daniel Moi and then opposition leader Kenneth Matiba.
Eleven years after founding this party, the country went for the third general election where through a coalition of several opposition parties, leaders fronted Kibaki as their preferred presidential candidate.
Through vigorous campaigns, Kibaki emerged victorious and was sworn in as the third president of the Republic of Kenya.
He found a rundown country. A country that had almost nothing to be proud of.
Through his leadership, the country prospered and by the time that he was leaving the highest office in the country, everybody was proud and happy with his leadership.
DP remains in the books of history as the political party that produced the third president, the president who liberated the country from dictatorship that had collapsed the entire economy.
