Being a party with mission to represent the interest of Kenyans, in 2019 the party through its officials Irungu Nyakera, then Deputy party leader and Wambugu Nyamu (currently party leader) moved to court challenging the running affairs of tea farmers’ national body, Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA). Two years later, in 2021, the country’s running of the multi-billion sector drastically changed. The executive and judiciary sided with farmers and the fruits are clear visible. Democratic Party of Kenya remains the only party that has ever moved to court to seek redress for farmers. Most political parties are only known in challenging issues that have political effects and this rare gesture by DP surprised many a people.

Most of the leaders seeking various leadership positions under the DP party sponsorship led by Murang’a County senatorial aspirant Gakwanja and Nyamu who is seeking to be the third Nyeri County Senator says they will prioritise farmers interest once they assume office in their senatorial positions.
