Construction of roads begins in earnest after group to oversee projects is established

The Nyandarua County Roads rehabilitation programme under newly reconstituted unit committees has kicked off.
Yesterday, Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha flagged off the unit’s equipment at the Department of Transport’s yard in Olkalou Town.
At the colourful event, the governor asked all stakeholders involved to ensure that the programme builds on the gains made and draws from experience of the last two years, saying his administration has a great opportunity and the goodwill of our people to transform the county.
“We’ve not come to destroy anything but to build from where those before us left. Governments exist in perpetuity and my duty and that of my administration is to make sure that changes we institute in public service and resources’ management create lasting effect on the people who elected us into office,” the Governor said.
As part of remodelling how the units have been working, Governor Badilisha, together with Member of the County Assembly drawn from the 25 wards, reconstituted the Unit Management Committees and introduced a raft of measures and guidelines to ensure efficiency, equity, and success of the programme.
There are five units in the county each serving a cluster of five wards each. Work in all other units begins on Monday.
Accompanying the County Head was his deputy, Mwangi Mathara who implored on everyone involved in the programme to ensure public expectations are met.
“let’s make this programme a model for others to come and learn from. Roads are critical enablers in actualizing our agenda, the deputy governor noted.”
Members of the County Assembly present, led by the Majority Leader Mwangi Nyaga (Kaimbaga), Mbogo Mburu (Weru, and Chairman Transport Committee) and Daniel Gitau (Karau) assured the county leadership of their support in delivering on the campaign promises.
Also present during the function were the County Commissioner Amos Maria, CECM Stephen Njoroge (Finance), Mary Gathigia (Youth, Sports and Social Services) and James Karitu (Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries), the Chief of Staff Peter Thiari and other senior National and County Government officers.
