A Civil Society Organization in Kisii County has partnered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to train members of community based organizations to foster devolution in the area.
Kisii Endelevu Trust Initiative (KETI) Program officer, Asha Moronya chair, said the partners are training the members on financial and project management to enhance their leadership and governance in their organizations.
Speaking at Kisii Town during the meeting with the officials from the nine constituenies, Mr Moronya said the Initiative collaborates with Saccos, Faith Based Organizations, youth and women and supports their activities to promote community development.
According to him they are working closely with the Groups to mainstream gender and support them to achieve their goals.
Moronya, who is also the chairman of Youth Bunge savings and credit cooperative (Sacco) society, said Sacco has joined the Organization and urged more Saccos and Groups to join the Initiative and work together to boost development in the county.
KETI’s Board chairman, Dr John Nyambega said the Organization is consolidating needs of the county’s residents and supporting the community based organizations to address them.
The official noted the Groups are the best model for development, stressing they disburse loans to members at low interest rates to enable start small scale businesses to boost their lives.
“Members have embraced table banking or merry-go-round where they lend money to each other at low interest rates, money circulates within and empowers them” Dr Nyambega said
He said during the outbreak of Covid 19, the organization assisted residents with drugs, mosquito nets and supported children from poor families under the Someni program.
Nyambega said the Initiative has rolled out a program to help them diversify their services and products to benefit community members, adding the Initiative addresses the gaps in the community based Organizations.
He said KETI is complementing the county and the national government to enable them to realize their development goals.
The officials said they are working in line with Sustainable Development Goals,(SDG) vision 2030 to end poverty by empowering the groups .
SDG1 aims to end poverty in all forms everywhere. It’s objectives include ensuring that the entire population and especially the poorest and most vulnerable have equal rights to economic resources, access to basic services , property and land control , natural resources and new technologies.
