Nyandarua County Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha addressing traders in Ol-Kalou town yesterday

A mutual decision resolving the Olkalou traders’ dispute, pitting those operating inside the market and those outside, has been arrived at this afternoon bringing to a successful conclusion the longstanding issue.
In a meeting bringing together both sides of the traders’ representatives, the meeting chaired by area Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha established an inclusive market management committee which will be responsible for allocation and space management inside the market, and a raft of other interventions to fully resolve the issue.
“Each one of you is a valuable contributor to our economy. No business is too small for my Government to protect; and every trader will be accommodated in the market and better trading environment created,” Governor Badilisha told the traders who had come together to find a lasting solution to persistent disputes that have rocked the market for years.
“We are glad you’ve facilitated us to come up with a solution which is our very own. One which we own and will implement, as well as establish our dispute resolution mechanisms,” their chair told the meeting and appreciated that “we look forward, for the first time, to being the drivers of this sustainable resolution.”
Already, lighting within and outside the market to ensure that traders operate for longer hours is ongoing, and plans to open a new expanded market are in top gear:
“This Governor will provide solutions and not engage in politics of pitting one group against the other. You are all my people and I have a duty to create an enabling environment for your businesses to thrive. And that’s what I’m doing,” the Governor assured them.
He was accompanied by the CECMs in charge of Trade Agnes Njuji, her Public Administration counterpart Dr. Paul Wanjau, area MCA Daniel Gitau, the County Secretary Muigai Wainaina, the Chief of Staff Peter Thiari, Nyandarua Central DCC George Otenga, Municipal Manager Anne Theuri, Ol’Kalou subcounty Administrator Mungai Kiongo, area Ward Administrator Rebecca Weru, and other County and National government officials.
