An Early Christmas For Laikipia Families As They Receive Food Aid

Hundreds of hunger-stricken residents in Laikipia County have benefited from food relief for Christmas festivities.
Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu said the Sh2.5 million food donation will be distributed to the neediest families.
“We have been appealing for food assistance from well-wishers to cushion our people against hunger. This has been occasioned by lack of rainfall for some time. Laikipia East and North are the worst affected,” Irungu told the press in Nanyuki.
He revealed the food consignment came from Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Nanyuki branch and LCT Africa, who came in to support the households facing famine.
The governor appealed for partnership in soliciting for more food aid for residents ahead of Christmas festivities and at the same time urged for coordination to guard against some of the deserving cases missing out from the food programme.
“For those with the ability to support us even in kind, it’s still acceptable, we want to benefit more residents since majority of them are starving,” said Irungu.
LCT Africa director in charge of finance and strategy James Mwangi said they donated maize floor, beans, rice and cooking oil targeted to feed about 400 hundred families during this Christmas season.
“Our aim as a company is to support the county, they reached out to us on this noble exercise and we felt the need to help some of the drought stricken families as responsible citizens of this country,” said Mwangi.
