Othaya constituency Member of Parliament Michael Wambugu Wainaina has initiated a unique project whose end result is to see all his constituents living in seme-permanent houses.

The ambitious project will see all mud houses in the area eradicated in the next few years.

Under the initiative code named Tuinuane Initiative, the lawmaker is organising resources from friends and well-wishers with an aim of progressively eradicating mud house structures in the constituency, and replaces them with timber houses.

Already, several families have benefitted from this noble initiative.

One of such family is that of Richard Muturi and his wife Monica Wairimu from Karima Ward. He visited them to oversee the work progress where he even took part in nailing some timber.

The lawmaker disclosed that his initiative is planning to improve the houses for at least 50 families in the area. He noted that targeted families have been unable to improve their homes due to among other things, escalating poverty as a result of low incomes.

When the MP visited Muturi’s family of 11, he broke down in tears saying he never believed he would be able to live in such a decent houses which was coming up for him.

The MP purchased building materials and the area community provided labour.

“We have started this journey. We have already built one and two are being built simultaneously in different areas,” said Wainaina.

A resident, Phyllis Wachira while thanking the MP for the unique initiative noted that such a project will transform the lives of the underprivileged in the community while her colleague, Joel Macharia noted that the project will uplift the standards of living of the beneficiaries.

Assisting the needy set up decent houses has been the passion of the Othaya MP.

Even before he was elected area legislator during last August General Election, the MP used to assist the locals, more so fire incident victims.
