Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku

The Senate Committee on County Public Investment and Special Funds (CPISFC) today met with Kajiado County Governor Joseph Ole Lenku to hear responses to queries raised by the Auditor General regarding the Olkejuado Water Company for the financial year 2018-2019.
The meeting which was chaired by Vice Chair Prof. Tom Ojienda however adjourned after the Senators noted that the Governor had not provided the Auditor General with sufficient supporting documents during the audit exercise.
“I direct that you submit the critical documents to the Auditor General, after which we will invite you again to appear before the committee,” Senator Ojienda directed the Governor.
The Auditor General’s report found that Olkejuado Water Company, which is owned by Kajiado County, had breached several regulations.
The report highlights that the company failed to operate with a functional Board of Directors, which has negatively impacted its governance and management oversight.
Additionally, the company was found to lack a Risk Management Policy and had not provided internal audit reports for review, both of which are breaches of regulations.
The company’s management responded to the report by stating that they are taking steps to address the issues highlighted, such as recruiting a new board and instituting a proper risk management policy.
Members of the CPISFC present in the meeting were Senators Ledama Olekina, Eddy Oketch, Maureen Mutinda, and Godfrey Osotsi. Kajiado Senator Seki Lenku Ole Kanar also attended, though he is not a member of the committee.
