Thousands of Mahiga Ward residents in Othaya constituency yesterday received free treatment courtesy of Mwai Kibaki Level VI hospital.
The residents flocked Kamoko Health Centre where they were screened, treated and given drugs.
Area Member of Parliament Wambugu Wainaina who accompanied the medical team urged the locals to enrol with National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) saying it was a sure way of easing treatment.
Saying screening and treatment of some illness was a costly affair, the MP said, the national health scheme was coming in handy in cases where treatment required a lot of resources.
He said the free medical camp will be replicated in all other wards in his constituency.
He at the same time urged the local residents to reveal dealers who were supplying illegal drugs to the youth in the area.
The lawmaker said cases of drug and substance abuse were on the rise in the area and urged them to disclose those behind so that the issue could be dealt with by the relevant authorities.
Further, the MP said, the office of National Government – Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) would be issuing bursaries to the needy next week.
He said the process is expected to be open and transparent where the locals will decide who will benefit amongst those who have applied.
