Nairobi City County gubernatorial candidate Agnes Kagure (6th right) with her supporters from UDA and ODM who endorsed her yesterday

A section of grassroot coordinators from Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and their counterparts from United Democratic Alliance (UDA) yesterday made a rare move of endorsing an Independent candidate as their choice for Nairobi gubernatorial position.
The coordinators met Ms Agnes Kagure and after a lengthy consultative meeting, they emerged with a resolution that she was the best gubernatorial candidate for the country’s capital.
In her response over the development, Ms Kagure retorted, “contesting as an independent candidate doesn’t make me antagonistic to political parties. Rather, it places me in a strategic position to work with Kenyans from all political parties without being held captive by any particular party”.
She continued, “I humbly and gladly receive the endorsement of grassroots coordinators from ODM and UDA parties despite their political coalition fielding candidates for the governor’s seat, have remained open-minded on who they would entrust to lead our county and after soul-searching, placed their hope and trust in me. I’m humbled”.
Ms Kagure noted that their bold decision is a wake-up call to voters that while August 9th is a one-day event, kenyana will continue to live with the consequences of their choices for the next five years.
She is battling it with among others, UDA candidate Johnson Sakaja and Jubilee’s Polycap Igathe.
