The International Water Association (IWA) has announced the establishment of an Advisory Board and Task Force for its Inclusive Urban Sanitation initiative.
The members are expected to provide guidance, feedback and direction on the initiative’s priorities, activities and performance.
IWA’s Inclusive Urban Sanitation initiative aims to reshape the global agenda on urban sanitation over the coming years, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
It forms part of IWA’s work to promote inclusive, resilient, water-wise and sanitation-secure cities.
The Advisory Board and Task Force consist of sanitation experts, regulators, strategic partners and members from various global regions in order to secure a balanced geographical representation and address a wide variety of sanitation challenges.

There are three Kenyans in the board and task force.
The Advisory Board members are Patrick Ty from Philippines, Mathi Vathanan (India), Jennifer Molwantwa (South Africa), Margaret Maina, a Kenyan who is the Managing Director of Kiambu County based Limuru Water and Sewerage Company, Sylvain Usher (Côte d’Ivoire), Yvonne Magawa (Zambia), Kate Medlicott (Switzerland), Neeta Pokhrel (Philippines), Osward Mulenga Chanda (Côte d’Ivoire), Thammarat Koottatep (Thailand) and Damir Brdjanovic from Netherlands
Members of the Task Force are, Diego Polania from Colombia, Hitesh Vaidya (India), Sharmistha Debnath (Bangladesh),
Recca Tharmarajah (Malaysia), Allan Nkurunziza Kampala (Uganda), Beatrice Chiwala Chibwe (Zambia), Priscillah Oluoch of Malindi Water and Sewerage Company in Kilifi County, Funke Adepoju (Nigeria), Charlotte Adjei (Ghana), Jay Bhagwan (South Africa), Ibra Sow (Senegal) Aditi Dwivedi (India), Najib Lukooya Bateganya (Senegal), Hasin Jahan (Bangladesh), Annabell Waititu of Kenya based Big Five Africa, Srinivas Chary (India), Peter Harvey (UNICEF Nepal) and Abishek Sankara Narayan from Switzerland.
Others are Kirsty Carden from University of Cape Town in South Africa,Charles Niwagaba (Uganda), Juliet Willetts (Australia) and Srikanth Mutnuri Birla of the Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, India.
This initiative consists of a project team led by the IWA Secretariat from its headquarters in London, United Kingdom.
In addition, there are opportunities for IWA members to get involved and help shape the outcomes of this imitative and contribute to its mission of achieving inclusive sanitation.
