The National Assembly’s Public Investments Committee on Social Services, Administration and Agriculture was forced to adjourn yesterday’s sitting with the management of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) led by the Managing Trustee David Mwangangi, after it turned evident that they team could not explain the audit responses they had presented before the committee.
The Committee led by Emanuel Wangwe (Navakholo ) was for the second time questioning NSSF management over audit queries raised in the Auditor General’s report of the Financial Year 2019/2020.
Committee members realised that the Legal manager Ms. Helen Koech statement was not in tandem with the Managing Trustee on the question of employment and retirement. This was after the committee questioned why 17 senior management positions had been held in an acting position for over 6 years.
Also noted was that out of over the 1,200 staff officers, 40% were due for retirement but the Human Resource had not advertised the positions.
Members of the committee, Geoffrey Wandeto (Tetu), Bishop Jackson Kosgey (Nominated), Fatuma Jeho (Wajir), Joshua Kimilu (Kaiti) Caleb Amisi (Saboti) and Wambugu Wainaina (Othaya) agreed with the Committee chair to adjourn the sitting to allow Mr. Mwangangi and his team prepare well before appearing again.
The team from the Auditor General’s office led by Director Joseph Abok also supported the adjournment to allow the NSSF team prepare well before re-appearing.
“Mr. Chairman, itβs important they appear ready with evidence attached. There is no need to continue if they are not ready”, Mr. Abok told the MPs.
