Officials from the Kenyatta University Teaching referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) took the witness box to respond to questions with regard to an ongoing examination of audit reports by the Auditor General before the Public Investment Committee on Social Services, Administration and Agriculture.
The report submitted by the Auditor General’s Office had raised key concerns on several issues including; Property, Plant and Equipment , Unauthorized Board Expenses, Irregular Employee costs, Budgetary control, Non-Submission of assets and Liabilities Register, Noncompliance with the National Cohesion and Integration Act, 2008 as well as Lack of Substantive Chief Executive Officer.
Led by the session Chair Caleb Hamisi from Saboti, the committee sought to understand why the facility has not yet acquired a title deed and the steps being taken to have its land valued and ownership transferred from Kenyatta University to the hospital.
In his response, the CEO of the facility stated that the existing wrangles on land allocation between the hospital and the university had delayed efforts to acquire a title deed.
He however confirmed that there are ongoing engagements with the University and relevant ministries to settle the matter and ensure the facility acquires a title deed.
In his submission, the CEO further explained that the facility is a new establishment and this has necessitated the need to conduct more board meetings than required in order to ensure smooth running of services.
He told the legislators that the Board had written to the Cabinet Secretary, Health seeking approval for additional sittings, which had been approved.
While making their contribution, committee members noted that the facility carries hope for many Kenyans who seek specialized treatment from the hospital.
