Former Mungiki Leader Maina Njenga To Record Statement At Nakuru DCI HQs

Former Mungiki leader, Maina Njenga was yesterday escorted to the Nakuru County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices to record statement.
This was after Senior Resident Magistrate, Emmanuel Soita declined to issue clear orders on Maina’s rearrest.
He was seized by DCI officers who had been trailing him since morning.
The officers said that they were taking him for a brief interrogation after which he would be released.
His lawyers led by Ndegwa Njiru and Steve Biko had pleaded with the court to interprete the orders by Nairobi High court which stated that Maina should not be arrested until charges are preferred against him.
However, his lawyers were in limbo because Maina was presented in a different court from the one handling his case.
Therefore the magistrate could not charge him because the prosecution was not ready and the matter was not listed for his court.
This meant that he could not issue orders or give bail and bond for the accused.
Lawyer Ndegwa told the court that they presented Maina to court after DCI issued a communique on Monday putting their client on its wanted list.
In the communique, the DCI said Maina was a fugitive who was wanted for among other things, in possession of illegal arms and belonging to an illegal group
