Education Committee Directs State Agencies To Protect The Credibility Of Kenya’s Academic Papers

The Education Committee of the National Assembly chaired by Julius Melly from Tinderet, has directed state agencies responsible for examinations management to prioritize the protection of Kenya’s academic qualifications.
Melly, speaking after a meeting with officials from the Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of national examinations.
“All agencies involved in exam administration and management, including the DCI and CA, must diligently fulfill their mandates and take decisive actions to combat cheating in exams,” stated Melly.
During the meeting, Vincent Ngudi, Assistant Director of Cybersecurity and Head of the National Cybersecurity Centre at CA, and DCI Director David Birech provided submissions to the committee regarding the inquiry into allegations of cheating in last year’s KCSE exams.
The officials appealed to parliament to enact stringent laws that would serve as a deterrent to individuals involved in exam malpractices, noting that current penalties are insufficient to deter potential cheaters.
“As a committee, we are committed to formulating laws, implementing programs, and allocating additional resources to the agencies under our purview to effectively eliminate this vice. We have done a number of reforms in the education sector and we will do more with your cooperation,” assured Hon. Melly.
