Ruto’s Working Tour Of Mount Kenya West Shows He Is Committed To Fulfill Pre-Election Pledges

- In his latest ongoing five-day working town, the President is continuing to launch and commission more projects with Nyeri and Kirinyaga counties getting a big share.
- This was expected because President Ruto’s policy is that of ensuring equal distribution of the public resources.

President William Ruto made a raft of promises to the people of the Mount Kenya region during the electioneering period.
While being guided by the recommendations contained in an economic charter blueprint presented to him by his chief campaigners from the region, Dr Ruto minced no word in assuring the residents of his commitment to walk the talk.
I fully understand the social and economic challenges that you are facing. Take it from me. If you elect me to be your President and I have no doubt you will do this, I will strive to address them.
With this, Ruto convinced the residents that he means well and as a result he garnered the highest number of votes.
Since he assumed office, he has made numerous visits to this region with bagful of goodies.
Mount Kenya East, Kiambu, Murang’a, Embu and Kirinyaga have gotten a bigger share of the development projects that he so far rolled out.
This totally proves wrong his critics from the region particularly those drawn from the Azimio La Umoja-OKA coalition that he has forgotten this region.
In his latest ongoing five-day working town, the President is continuing to launch and commission more projects with Nyeri and Kirinyaga counties getting a big share.
This was expected because President Ruto’s policy is that of ensuring equal distribution of the public resources.
Most of the projects are being rolled out in Nyeri County.
This does not mean the county is being favored. It had not yet received its share that is commensurate to those rolled out in other countries. This is despite the fact that Deputy President Rigathi hails from this County.
In this tour, President is staying at Sagana State Lodge. He is set to chair a cabinet meeting on Tuesday and also host two meetings of the local leaders from this region at this facility.
The leaders will have an opportunity to bring to his attention the expectations of the locals. Are they satisfied with what he has done so far? What were the other challenges facing them?
They will develop a work plan enumerating projects to be rolled out in next and subsequent financial years. The categorization is based on priority areas.
The people of this region are farmers and rely on coffee, tea and milk for livelihood.
The President is visiting at a time when they were just toiling and only getting a peanut from their sweat.
Ruthless brokers and cartels were calling the shot and eating their sweat.
We know the President had assigned his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to speedily look at this matter and advise his government on how to address them.
This is one of unfinished business that preoccupies the President’s mind. This explains why Dr Ruto directed that one of the meetings with local leaders would specifically focus on this matter.
Earlier, the President had fired stern warnings to the brokers and cartels.
Your days were numbered. We will not allow you to reap from where you never sow anymore.
This is at the expense of the farmers who only toiled in their farms without reaping anything.
This tour will leave Dr Ruto critics in shame and with an egg on their face.
The president is delivering on his pledges. So, which other card would they use to incite the locals?
None. I’m so far impressed with the way the President is governing this country.
He understands his job description very well. He knows he is the president of the Republic of Kenya.
This is explains why he has been ensuring that other regions of Kenya were not left out.
We have seen him rolling out development projects even in the regions that did not vote for him.
This brings him out as statesman and charismatic leader.
The ongoing tour of the president in the Mountain started in Githurai where he commissioned a water project and a market.
Addressing a mammoth crowd that had turned up, he reiterated.
These people (read the Azimio leader Raila Odinga and his brigade) are angling themselves for a ‘nusu mkate’ (half bread) government.
I want to tell them to forget this. I will never do that.
And moving forward, I will be hard on them.
This is because they were out to sabotage our economy and derail us from fulfilling the pledges we made to you during the campaigns.
It worth noting that Raila was yet to come to term with the devastating loss he suffered at the ballot.
Dr Ruto won the elections. Besides being declared the winner by IEBC chairman, the Supreme Court of Kenya also reaffirmed and upheld his victory. This is while delivery a ruling on a petition filed by Raila and his running mate Martha Karua.
The decision of the seven-judge bench was unanimous.
The local and international observers had also given the polls a clean bill of health.
This is not the first time that Raila is resorting to blackmail and intimidation to force the newly elected president to share the government with him.
He used the same tricks in the aftermath of 2007 and 2017 general elections, respectively. Then, he succeeded and this led to the loss of the opposition’s voice.
For Dr Ruto, he has been walking the walk. This is in terms of ensuring the democracy and rule of law takes root in Kenya.
The success of this lies in having a vibrant and robust opposition.
Dr Ruto would further assert. I’m not afraid of my government being audited and put in checks. This is because i believe in a just and open society.
