National Assembly Committee on National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) which is chaired by Musa Sirma of  Eldama Ravine yesterday vetted former Githunguri legislator Gabriel Kago Mukuha following his nomination as a member of the NG-CDF Board.

The committee inquired about the experience that Kago, the immediate former MP for Githunguri, would bring to the board if approved to assume the position.

In his response Kago said, being a former MP, he has experienced challenges with the constituency fund first hand and he is well-placed to provide solutions as a member of the board.

“As a former MP, I can relate to where the NG-CDF fund has taken my constituency. In Githunguri with the Fund, we were able to start ICT hubs and Technical Training Institutions. If approved I will come in with the vision of how NG-CDF should transform all constituencies,” Kago told the committee.

Through the chairperson, the committee also asked the nominee how he will ensure that a possible case of conflict of interest in the Githunguri Constituency will not interfere with the current MP, Gathoni Wamuchomba who oversees NG-CDF in the constituency.

“You served Githunguri constituency as their MP for one term during the last parliament then Wamuchomba replaced you, if appointed to the NG-CDF board, there could be a possible case of conflict of interest with her. How are you going to navigate it?” Sirma asked.

The nominee assured the committee that he has no interests in his constituency politics at the moment and he is going to ensure that all constituencies pursue the structure of NG-CDF.

The nominee also told the committee that as a board member, he will propose an increase of NG-CDF from the current 2.5 per cent to at least 5 per cent to serve its purpose fully.

The committee will retreat to write a report on the suitability of Kago, thereafter it will be tabled before the House for debate and consideration.
