United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leaders vehemently objected to a proposal by their Azimio la Umoja Kenya Moja counterparts to ban sale and use of used imported clothes popularly known as mitumba locally.
Led by Presidential Running Mate Rigathi Gachagua during a campaign tour of Nyeri and Murang’a counties, the leaders noted that nobody wears used clothes out of choice but due to poverty brought about by bad governance that they vowed to overturn when and if they ascend to power.
“The Azimio presidential candidate was born into opulence and cannot understand why anybody would have difficulty buying new clothes. Let those that can afford new clothes buy their choice see that can’t afford wear what is within their reach”, roared Gachagua in Karatina market in his Mathira constituency.
However, the allegations were dismissed by Azimio saying the Kenya Kwanza group was putting the issue out of context for political mileage purposes.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome said that inspite of the intensity in the political heat in the run up to the appointment of Gachagua as Ruto’s running mate, they are now all United and that no amount of propaganda will put a wedge between them.
Wahome assured that if their coalition took power in August, their first priority will be to look into the lowering of prices of foodstuffs and other basic commodities even as they put into motion arrangements to empower hustlers to make ends meet in a more dignified and meaning manner.
In his typical vulgar mode, Gatundu South legislator and Chama cha Kazi (CCK) party leader Moses Kuria sneered at their opponents choice of running mate (Martha Karua) to “spraying expensive perfume into a toilet”.
In Nyeri, the leaders traversed Mathira, Mukurweini, Othaya, Tetu and Kieni constituencies ending their tour at Ichuga on the Border of Nyeri and Laikipia counties.
Other leaders accompanying the UDA second in command included Nyeri governor Mwalimu Mutahi Kahiga and his deputy designate David Kinaniri Warui. Also in tour were Maragua MP Mary Wamaua, Starehe’s Charles Njagua and Nyeri Women Representative Rahab Mukami.
Others included senatorial candidate Wahome Wamatinga, Mathira candidate Eric Wamumbi, Mukurweini’s John Kaguchia, Othaya’s Wambugu Wainaina and Kieni’s Njoroge Wainaina.
Also in the tour were members of Kenya Kwanza Nyeri chapter lobby group which has been campaigning for the Ruto and Gachagua election. This team is chaired by former Nyeri mayor Wanyaga Gathaka.
Today, the team moves to Mt Kenya East county of Meru.
