The teachers have been serving for contract over ten years.
This was due to the absence of a functional public service board.
Speaking at Gusi stadium during the meeting with the ECDE teachers, Kisii governor Simba Arati said that his administration has plans to absorb them into permanent and pensionable terms.
Arati said that he would ensure that teachers are remunerated and their welfare catered for as part of the efforts to improve service delivery in basic education.
Governor said that all pending matters involving ECDE teachers are to be addressed in accordance to the law, including the establishment of a Scheme of Service for ECDE teachers to streamline operations.
He noted that ECDE teachers have been on contract for the last 10 years and the previous administration did little to improve the terms of service
He stated that to resolve to consider having ECDE teachers absorbed in Permanent terms is a clear demonstration that as County Government are committed to offer quality education to the young learners so as to give them a solid foundation for their future wellbeing.
Governor said that the county has a population of over 70,000 ECDE learners admitted in 703 centers across the county, with over 900 teachers.
The county annually allocated over Ksh.600 million to the Department of Education to facilitate ECDE programs including salaries for administrative staff, teachers, materials and infrastructure development.
He further said that the county has embarked on the construction of modern ECDE classrooms throughout the county in a bid to establish more and modernized centers.
The county is majorly focused to improve the facilities into all-round state of the art ECDE centres equipped with teaching aids, TV sets, play equipment, napping areas, and all basic amenities required in child development, including a sustainable nutrition programme.
