Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has asked church leaders to be in the frontline in the rescue of those lost in alcohol, drug and substance abuse in Embu County and her environs.
Speaking during a meeting of pastors and church leaders of more than 250, Pastor Dorcas decried the years of alcoholism and drug abuse in the different communities of Kenya, challenging the church leaders to stand up against the vice.
“The economic drivers of our nation and the world are in the gutter. Let us make them into men who are worthy, fathers, and missionaries. It is possible to transform the lives of the people if your are determined,” said Pastor Dorcas.
Present were Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, Senator Alexander Muhinja, County MP Pamela Njoki, Runyenjes MP Eric Karemba, Association of Pentecostal and Evangelical Clergy of Kenya (APECK) members, and other leaders.
The APECK Chair in Embu area, Apostle Patrick Gitundu said the country was facing a crisis with men lost in addictions, and even in the church, the ratio of men to women was quite huge, with men being very few.
The leaders from Embu County made a commitment to support the boy child and widows program for the benefit of the people.
County MP Njoki confessed to suffering the setbacks of having a parent who was predisposed to alcoholism.
“My father was an absentee father because of alcohol, and I vowed never to take alcohol. My father died when he had not stopped taking alcohol,” said MP Njoki.
The County MP promised to collaborate with the spouse of the Deputy President in actualizing the programs in Embu County. “Include me in your programs,” said MP Njoki.
MP Karemba said, “I love what you’ve (Pastor Dorcas) come to do here in Embu. You are doing not what many people are doing by seeking to transform the boy child. Our community is desirous of big things not realising we are losing a generation to alcohol, and I have seen them just sitting idle even in my constituency.”
The spouse of the MP, Martha Muchangi, who was also present said, “What you are doing, to touch the hearts of the boy child is great. May you have the grace to move everywhere across the nation.”
And the spouse of Mbeere South MP, Catherine Nephab Muriuki, said, “As the spouses of MPs in Embu County, we shall support you to make this program move forward.”
After the meeting, Pastor Dorcas proceeded to a medical camp where men in addictions were being screened for rehabilitation including dental, optical and overall health checkups at the Embu Moi Stadium.
