Nyeri County governor Mutahi Kahiga yesterday warned of unknown consequences over plans to humiliate Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua
A bold Kahiga said those behind such schemes would live to regret.
A tough taking Kahiga saud the leadership of Mt Kenya region will not allow a few individuals to sow a rift between President William Ruto and his deputy.
Speaking at Endarasha Catholic Church, Kahiga said voters from the mountain region woke up very early to put the Kenya Kwanza government in office due to among other reasons, their trust with President Ruto and his deputy.
“As the people of Mt. Kenya, we rose early to vote for President Ruto and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua. Campaigning for this ticket was not easy, and we faced significant challenges. We do not want to see Rigathi Gachagua subjected to the same humiliation Ruto faced,” the governor told the faithful who attended the Mass in Endarasha, within Kieni constituency.
He added, “We will not tolerate any attempts to humiliate DP Rigathi Gachagua within William Ruto’s government by a few individuals who seek to drive a wedge between the president and his deputy”.
Governor Kahiga likened the current happenings to what used to transpire during the fight for the independence saying, “Just as we had collaborators during the Mau Mau war, we now see individuals trying to divide our region,”.
He noted. “The Deputy President rightfully holds the position of Deputy President. Our community contributed 47 per cent of the total votes that propelled Ruto to the presidency, and this must be respected,” adding, “Rigathi Gachagua is our political leader as we stand in support of President Ruto. Those seeking to divide the Mt. Kenya region aim to divert our attention from the benefits we should receive from Ruto’s government, as promised to the people of this region,”.
