National Research Fund (NRF) chairman Prof. Ratemo Michieka has urged the government to allocate more funds to research institutions to boost the country’s development.
“Nobody or any country can support research institutions other than the nation where such institutions are.
It is therefore imperative and very important that developing nations inject more funds into the research arena to get things done for that country,” he said.
Michieka also suggested that the government should push ahead with an agenda that generates employment opportunities for its citizens.
Currently, the government is releasing 2 per cent of its GDP to research institutions, but this could be increased for more benefits to the country.
Michieka highlighted that research contributes significantly to a country’s development by comparing the development index of developed countries to what is provided in Kenya.
