The Tharaka Nithi Governor Hits Out At Finance Bill Opportunists, Cautions Against Looting And Chaos In The Country

He issued a stern warning to the orchestrators of the malice and asked that the county remain calm and united against the opportunists.
- “I have heard from the intelligence of local politics playing around where certain people are targeting to burn the office of the Governor, County Assembly offices and CDF offices. They are fueling crisis, and planning to take advantage of the peaceful protests by Gen Z. I want to announce here that we shall deal with anyone that is trying to destabilize our county since there is nothing you can do to take us off our target”, he said.
Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has warned Finance Bill 2024 protest opportunists, taking advantage of the peaceful demonstrations to loot and cause chaos across the country.
The Governor who was speaking at a graduation ceremony at PCEA Rubate Health Sciences and Teacher Training College said he recognized the efforts made by the young people, especially ‘Gen Z’ to communicate to the government and the country and thanked President William Ruto for not assenting the controversial bill.
“We have a government that is very ambitious to change the country in just a few days but the ‘Gen Z’ have come out and said no, and asked the government to take it slowly. We cannot overtax you to achieve a sudden growth, we have to move at your pace and we do agree. We acknowledge them, they have backed down, and they are no longer protesting because they have seen results”, he said.

The governor hit out at individuals trying to manipulate the country into believing that President Ruto’s decision not to assent to the bill was just but a delaying tactic to pass the bill.
Some people are saying that the withdrawal of the bill by President Ruto is a gimmick to delay the assenting of the bill but I have been a member of parliament, and the constitution is clear on what happens on such procedures. The whole bill is rejected. It is gone, dead and buried. Therefore, anyone in Kenya who is cheating the young generation that the president is using delaying tactics has a different agenda”, Njuki said.
Governor Njuki noted that the County Government will continue to partner with the college to provide essential technical support in preparation for the institution’s accreditation and assessment, acknowledging the Memorandum of Understanding between the County Government and the School of Health Sciences to ensure compliance and an effective learning environment as well as the continued growth of the school.
“Our MoU facilitates the utilization of health facilities for clinical practice by the Nurse Trainees and enables seconded staff to operate at the PCEA Rubate Health Centre. The County Department of ICT has also provided internet to enable both trainers and trainees to use technology in their learning. We have also donated equipment needed to operationalize the Skills Lab for effective learning and help the institution meet the Nursing Council of Kenya requirements”, he said.
The Governor announced plans to upgrade Mpukoni Health Centre to Level 4 status in collaboration with the Safaricom Foundation donating KShs 44 million towards the upgrade of the maternity by providing a Mother to Child Unit and a theatre and giving opportunity to medical students in their practicum.
The County Government is also committed to connecting the institution to the main road tarmac which will be complete by November this year. In addition, the Governor promised the construction of a Standard Field at the institution to nurture and build young talent in the area which also hosts a Primary School and TVET institution. The complex will include sports such as Soccer, Basketball and Netball with a complete standard pavilion.
Also, present at the event included PCEA Moderator of the 24th General Assembly Rev. Thegu Mutahi, Chairman of the Board of Management Dr. Benjamin Kanga and College Principal Mr. Stephen Mathai Mukundi.
