- He is battling it with among others the incumbent Gichuki Mugambi who is the Jubilee, UDA’s Wambugu Wainaina alias Mt Kenya, Patrick Ngunjiri of Chama Cha Kazi, Castro Njima of Usawa Kwa Wote party and David Kimengere.
Lawrence Kagwi Muchiri is yearning and optimistic that he will be the next Member of Parliament who will be representing Othaya constituency after the August 9th General Election.
Muchiri, a Physical Planner by profession who is popularly known as “Think-Tank” has outlined his manifesto becoming the first candidate seeking the parliamentary seat in Othaya to have a written document detailing his plan for the constituents.
In a 30-point bulletin, Muchiri hopes that voters in Othaya will support his bid to be the sixth lawmaker to represent the locals in the August House.
Below is some highlights as drafted by the 33-year-old candidate.
- I will ensure there is NO corruption in distribution and disbursement of bursar funds. Brokers and tenderprenurs around the National Government – Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) offices to be chased away.
- All unemployed people in Othaya to be enrolled. All labour and technical expertise needed to carry out all NG-CDF works will be sourced from the constituency. We shall push ruthlessly for our our people to get jobs in government and private entities. Joblessness in Othaya will be a thing of the past .
- All youths to get free driving course. All Bodaboda operators to get free training and driving licenses.
- Ensure tarmacking of Chinga dam- Kagicha- Kairo road is done to conclusion.
- All public schools to be renovated and the floor tiled. Additional schools to be built in areas where pupils and students travel for long distances.
- Sponsor youths to TVET programs. All polytechnics to be well equipped with modern facilities and enough trainers.
- Push for Guaranteed Minimum Return (GMR) in Parliament to ensure tea, coffee, overcado and milk farmers are guaranteed of good returns at all times.
- Promote sports and culture. We shall support all football, volleyball and all games in our constituency. They will get training, new uniforms and equipment.
- Sponsor at least 4 bills in Parliament. One of the bills is to ensure corruption related cases are heard and determined within 6 months. I will also push for zero rating of all agricultural products; food should never be taxed at all.
- Lobby for Gathunguri-Waihara-Gathakoini road to be tarmacked.
- Negotiate with Mwai Kibaki Hospital to treat cancer, diabetes and all noncommunicable disease for free for all Othaya residents.
- Ensure Miiri- Gitundu- Nyamari road is tarmacked.
- No pupil or student will ever be sent home for lack of school fees. I will have a negotiated agreement with all schools in Othaya in regard to fees payment.
- I will push for 200 Kilometres of new tarmac for Othaya. We shall do away with murram since its not durable. Cheap is expensive!
- As an urban planner I will ensure all Othaya shopping centres get physical development plans and are well planned.
- Provide fully paid NHIF cards to deserving residents.
- In collaboration with our churches, we shall come up with programs to mentor our youths per year and counsel them to be great people in future and not indulge in drug and substance abuse.
- In collaboration with County Government, we shall ensure our health centres and dispensaries in Othaya constituency have medicine 24/7. Lack of medicine in hospitals will never be imagined during my term.
- In collaboration with parents and school boards, we shall purchase school buses for our students to enable them have education tours with ease.
- All our public schools will get land title deeds to protect them from land grabbers.
- We shall negotiate with our 3 tea factories in Chinga, Iriaini and Gitugi to employ people from Othaya first in all positions.
- We shall negotiate with Kenya Forest Service (KFS) to allow all people near Aberdare Forest and Karima hill to get permission to graze their cattle & cultivate in these forests as they take care of trees through re-afforestation programs.
- Lobby for water related projects to ensure enough water for farming in Othaya constituency.
- There will be operational Ajira digital hubs in Karima, Mahiga, Chinga and Iriaini wards to train people on how to make money online. These hubs will be operated by people from the respective wards.
- Chinga dairy centre will be taken back from Mukurweini Wakulima dairy and shall be operated by Chinga dairy farmers.
- Garbage in Othaya town and all shopping centres will be a thing of the past. We shall liaise with county government to ensure they do this effectively.
- Othaya stadium to be constructed and conform to international standards.
- We shall liaise with our security organs to ensure the few cases of insecurity in the constituency are never to be heard again. We shall use CDF money to support community policing and support security operators.
