Former National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Gitau Mwangi has been fronted to contest the Nakuru governor seat in the next General Election.
Mwangi was endorsed by elders from different communities during a ceremony held at Ka-Mwaura area in Njoro constituency on Monday.
The elders, led by Mzee Samuel Tesot and Mureithi WaNjoro handed over the former CEO a Kikuyu leadership traditional stick known as ‘Mùthìgi’ which signifies power to lead.
The elders said that after a long scrutiny, they had settled on Mwangi as the most formidable person who would be able to champion for the interests of all residents of Nakuru County.
They noted that the county being cosmopolitan required a leader with good track record, who is from the area and who could easily identify the needs of the locals.
They noted that past holders of the position have all been from outside the county and thus don’t have the interests of the locals at heart.
The elders, who were drawn from different parts of the vast county called for unity among the locals saying without peace and unity, it was practically impossible for the region to prosper.
WaNjoro who is the chairperson of the county’s Peace Initiative team said they supported the move by President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua who have been calling for peace and unity amongst all Kenyans for the country to prosper.
The elders said they would be criss-crossing the county calling on all residents who live and work harmoniously.
On his part, Mwangi thanked the elders saying he was equal to the task and would not let them down, once given the mandate when the time comes.
