Nairobi, August 14, 2024 —Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has officially handed over the reins of the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry (MITI) to her successor, Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya. The handover ceremony took place at the Ministry of Trade Offices in Nairobi, marking the transition as Miano prepares to take up her new role as the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife.
In her farewell speech, Miano expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and highlighted key achievements during her tenure. She noted the strides made in enhancing trade relations, promoting industrial growth, and fostering a business-friendly environment in Kenya.
“It has been an honor to serve in this capacity and contribute to the growth of our nation’s trade and industry sectors,” She said.
She also expressed confidence in Mvurya’s ability to continue the ministry’s momentum and build on the foundation laid during her tenure.
“I am confident that Hon. Salim Mvurya will steer the ministry to even greater heights, i wish him all the best in this new role.” Miano added.
Salim Mvurya, who officially took over from outgoing CS Miano, lauded Miano for her dedicated service and outlined his vision for the ministry moving forward. He emphasized the importance of driving economic growth through strategic investments, fostering trade relations, and supporting industrial development. Mvurya also pledged to work closely with stakeholders to ensure the ministry continues to contribute to Kenya’s economic transformation.
“I will Provide leadership which will guarantee acceleration in the manufacturing sector besides Working hard to bring in new investors. Kenya will continue to open new markets For local products abroad and at the same time facilitate the private sector to take advantage of these markets to increase exports.” Mvurya added
The Cabinet reshuffle, announced by President William Ruto, is part of broader efforts to align government priorities with the administration’s vision for economic growth and sustainable development. Miano and Mvurya’s new assignments are seen as strategic moves to bolster key sectors of the economy.
The event marked the conclusion of Miano’s tenure as the Cabinet Secretary for Trade, where she reflected on her accomplishments and the future of the ministry under new leadership and new chapter for Hon. Salim Mvurya.
