They, however did not explain how the former Mathira Member of Parliament had hampered development neither did they say how other regions had benefited as compared to Mt Kenya.
- Curiously, out of 10 legislators from Murang’a that is home to the high flying Kiharu legislator who is also the parliamentary budget committee chairman Ndindi Nyoro, only two attended the meeting; namely Woman Rep Betty Maina who is married to Mathira legislator Eric Wamumbi and Mathioya’s Edwin Mugo.
Relations between President William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua hit rock bottom yesterday after a section of Members of Parliament from Mt. Kenya region denounced the second in command.
Just three days after 14 parliamentarians from Meru, Embu and Tharaka Nithi counties declared that Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki would henceforth be their link with State House, 48 from other counties in the region followed suit.

In Gachagua’s Nyeri backyard, all the six MPs, senator Wahome Wamatinga and Woman Rep Rahab Mukami endorsed the move. Though Mukami didn’t attend the meeting, she was listed among the 13 who were in concurrence with the statement that was read out to journalists b by Lari MP Mburu Kahangara.
Kiambu county that has 12 constituency MPs, a senator and woman rep had three absentees led by Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, a close associate of the DP, Juja’s Georgr Koimburi and Gathoni wa Muchomba of Githunguri while in Nakuru Jane Kihara and senator Tabitha Karanja skipped the retreat.
From Kirinyaga County, Senator Kamau Murango and area Women Representative Njeri Maina snubbed the meeting.
Gachagua’s political advisor, former Nyeri town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu dismissed the statement as an exercise in futility likening it to a similar one he led during kieleweke days.
“During Kieleweke days I once convened a meeting that had a long list of MPs (I think they were 48 including some ‘absent but in concurrence). One person responded by saying ‘We now know which MPs will go home’ He was right. We went home,” noted Wambugu who is also an aclaimed political analyst.
Nyeri Nominated MCA Kariithi Wambui laughed off the statement which he termed as a well orchestrated scheme to divide the vote rich region but will boomerang on both its architects those being used.
“Can anybody explain why Murang’a parliamentarians stayed off yet their son Ndindi Nyoro has been a high flier until recently when he took a low profile and his chief lieutenant senator Joe Nyutu ceased blowing his trampet”, wondered Wambui.
“There can only be one answer which is, they realised they are being taken for aride; a realisation that will hit other regions including western, Nyanza as well as the likes of COG chair Anne Waiguru who is clinging on the gender card,” advised the youthful County legislator.
Social media was abuzz with debate with most contributors dismissing the legislators as turncoats, betrayers, unprincipled lacking in ideals and empathy for their electorates.
Mbugua Kiarie, a political analyst from Kiambu advised all leaders to patch their differences, work together and reap immensely come elections or get ready kiss their political careers goodbye.
The Kenya Kwanza government was elected into office due their sweet promises that sounded citizen friendly but two years into their term nothing substantial has happened anywhere in the republic”, opined Kiarie.
A simmering cold war between the Head of State and his deputy has been apparent for the better part of this year culminating in the second in command switching off his phones and remaining incommunicado in his rural Sagana home in Nyeri for a whole week, skipping a seeing off of his boss as he flew to the US among other state functions both in State House and other venues.
When he resurfaced, his home county governor Mutahi Kahiga challenged the county’s number one to openly declare his stand on his apparent sponsorship of humiliation of the DP uttering the now famous words” kama ni mbaya ni mbaya”.
Since then the relationship between the President and the county boss has never been cordial with sources intimating that the president who is expected at Ngangarithi AIPCA church this Sunday has been communicating with both Kahiga’s deputy David Kinanire and and acting Regional Commissioner Peter Murugu thereby avoiding direct communication with Kahiga.
It’ll be interesting to watch how the head of state, his deputy and the governor will treat each other in the church and thereafter.
