Nakuru County Government yesterday distributed thousands of seedlings in a bid to boost fruits production in the area.
Through the Department of Agriculture, the county officials distributed 6,690 and 6,620 avocado seedlings in Naivasha and Bahati Sub-counties respectively.
Currently, the administration has distributed over 37,000 out of a target of 66,000 Avocado Seedlings to be issued this fiscal year.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Eliud Kiragu, a farmer from Kinungi village, Naivasha East ward, encouraged youth to practice agriculture, saying it serves as a platform for employment, income generation and food security.
He added that they are looking forward to form Avocado Farmer Groups and Cooperatives where they will help them have a higher bargaining power for their produce.
The farmers thanked the county administration led by Governor Lee Kinyanjui who they said they will support in his bid to retain the gubernatorial seat under Jubilee party.
