Small-scale traders at Kisumu’s Jubilee Market have decried the rising transport costs for goods and commodities which threatens to push them out of business. This coupled with the high cost of living has seen the number of customers drop as local vendors struggle to get a share of the cake. Daisy Achieng, a vegetable vendor at the market said the cost of transporting goods to the market has soared in recent months, a burden that has hit local farmers and artisans. Most of the traders at the market, she said were finding it difficult to sustain their businesses, as profit margins shrink amidst rising expenses.

The Coast Regional security team has moved to bring calm in Bangale Sub County and Tana North Sub County in Tana River, following inter community conflicts that have left 8 people dead. Speaking to the press at the Bangale Deputy county commissioner’s office, the Coast Regional commissioner Rhoda Onyancha said that security officers have been stationed at the troubled areas to keep watch around the clock. Onyancha, who was joined by her security team and the county security team said that it was unfortunate that lives were lost from a conflict between two communities who have lived together in peace for many years.
“We have tried to look at the root cause of the conflict and we have found that there was a small disagreement at a water point in Anole where one community perceived that the other community was preventing them from accessing water,” Onyancha said.
Narok County Government has commissioned projects worth Sh100 million in Narok Town Ward that were implemented in the 2022/2023 financial year. The projects include construction of: classrooms, water projects, dispensaries, slaughter house livestock markets, and renovation of roads in various parts of the county. Speaking when launching a water project and Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) at Emayian Primary School, the governor Patrick Ntutu said the implementation of the projects commenced shortly after he took office in the year 2022.
Fish farmers in Uasin Gishu County have been advised to form cooperative societies, which will provide them with essential bargaining power and significantly enhance the efficiency of their farming activities.
Speaking during the distribution of fish feed to several fish farmers, Livestock and Fisheries Chief Officer Nixon Cheplong emphasised the importance of cooperatives if farmers were to fully realise the potential of fish farming in the region.
“The only reason why fish farmers are struggling is that they have not joined hands through cooperatives to reap maximum benefit from the fishing sector and I urge them to do so, as it will enable them to leverage resources and enhance their profitability,”Cheplong said. The chief officer noted that the County Government has actively distributed fingerlings to ensure that fish farmers have access to quality stock.

President William Ruto yesterday appointed Munyori Buku, the New Head of the Presidential Communication Service. Mr Buku brings over 26 years experience in Strategic Communication and Media practice within both the Public and Private sectors. He takes the position previously held by David Mugonyi who in January this year was appointed the Communication Authority of Kenya Director General. Prior to the appointment, Buku was Secretary for Public Communication at State House. In the past, Buku, has served in the Communications departments at the Office of Deputy Prime Minister in Uhuru Kenyatta’s reign as well as at the Treasury. In the private sector, Buku served as a senior editor at Nation and Standard Media groups.
