Pastors Launches Campaign To Sensitize Voters And Leaders To Embrace Peace and Unity

Pastors from various denominations in Kisii County have launched campaigns to sensitize voters and leaders to embrace peaceful campaigns and unity ahead of the August 9 General Election.
County pastors and clergy forum chairman, Lawrence Omambia said they would criss-cross the county on a peace caravan to preach peace and pray for the leaders as they conduct their campaigns.
“We are going to start the campaign from Marani town on May 16 and conduct it for five days. The political temperature is increasing and we want to reduce it by preaching peace” Omambia told the Press in Kisii town yesterday.
He insisted on a peaceful campaign and political tolerance as the county heads for elections and said the culture of violence must be discouraged.
The official, flanked by Evans Onduso, vice chairman, bishop Felix Nyariki, treasurer, evangelical alliance churches chairman, bishop Charles Mosomi, Bishop Sicilia Nyambane ( Sharom ministries) and other clergy urged voters to reject leaders who abuse each other and incite youths to cause violence.
Onduso said church leaders will not keep quiet when political leaders are dividing members and fueling conflicts for selfish political interests.
He said that electorates should use the power of the ballot to elect credible and accountable leadership.
“Whoever is going to cause divisions among our members is an enemy of Kisii County and we will not vote for him or her” Onduso explained.
Bishop Mosomi challenged youths not to be hired by unscrupulous politicians to attack their rivals due to political differences, stressing elections come and go and should be used to cause violence and divide them.
He challenged the politicians and youths to be tolerant and allow candidates conduct campaigns and allow voters elect whoever they want to lead them.
He cited that politicians should embrace peaceful coexistence and avoid reckless remarks and premature politics that could lead to chaos and play mature politics devoid of chaos.
“There will be losers, winners and life after the election. We want peace across the country as we head to the election” Mosomi explained.
Nyambane said youths who engaged in violence risked their lives, adding they could be injured or die and affect their families.
She said that violence had left people widowed and children orphaned, stressing they will not allow the leaders to misuse the youths to cause chaos.
The Bishop said the clergy will not allow leaders to undermine and misuse them, adding they have power to advise their members to reject them during the election.
The pastors urged public to live as brothers and sisters with their neighbouring committees.
