The Kenya Mining Investment Conference and Expo 2024 is not just an event; it represents a monumental milestone in the country’s ambitious journey to position the mining sector as a cornerstone of economic transformation.
On Tuesday, Principal Secretary for Mining Elijah Mwangi, alongside senior officials from the Mining Department, had the privilege of accompanying Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Hassan Ali Joho during the official opening of the inaugural two-day conference in Nairobi. The event brought together a diverse array of stakeholders, including policymakers, investors, academicians, community leaders, and international partners.
In his address, CS Joho highlighted the importance of the conference as a vibrant platform for rich and productive discussions. “This gathering allows us to explore innovative possibilities, address challenges, and chart a bold path toward a future where mining becomes a significant contributor to Kenya’s GDP, empowers local communities, and ensures environmental sustainability,” he said.
The conference also underscored Kenya’s commitment to accelerating reforms within the mining sector. With rising public awareness of the industry’s role in national development, the Ministry is determined to create a conducive environment that attracts investments while ensuring that local communities reap tangible benefits.
“This momentous occasion reflects our dedication to transforming Kenya’s mining sector into a global investment hub,” added PS Mwangi. “Through collaboration with partners, we aim to implement transformative changes that not only streamline the sector but also ensure sustainable and equitable growth.”
As Kenya embarks on this transformative journey, the 2024 Mining Investment Conference and Expo stands as a testament to the government’s resolve to unlock the potential of its mineral wealth while safeguarding the nation’s environmental and social interests.
