Bobasi MP Innocent Obiri has appealed to aspirants for elective seats in the area to shun politicizing National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) projects to gain political mileage.
Mr Obiri said some leaders were using social media bloggers to discredit CDF projects funded from the kitty and challenged them to verify facts before engaging in cheap politics.
Speaking at Rusinga primary school in his constituency after he commissioned a ksh. 18 million block constructed from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG CDF) kitty, he said the Block has eight classrooms, an administration office and a computer room.
The MP, also handed over a site to the contractor to construct a dormitory at Rusinga secondary school at a cost of Ksh. 22.5 million. The two-storey dorm will accommodate 400 students and will take two years to be completed.
The MP said some leaders were exaggerating the cost of projects to incite members of the public against elected leaders, stressing projects are advertised, tendered for and the cost is made public.
“A lot of falsehoods are being peddled on social media by bloggers engaged by my rivals. I challenge them to check facts in the ground before misleading residents” Obiri said.
Meanwhile, the Lawmaker appealed to youths not to be misused by unscrupulous politicians to cause violence during the campaigns and elections, terming it retrogressive.
“Voters are wiser. They elect leaders based on respect and not violence. I urge youths to avoid causing violence” Obiri, who is defending his seat through the Wiper Democratic Party of Kenya he said.
He appealed to religious leaders to pray for the country and the political leaders as the country heads to the August 9 General Election for the country to be united and peaceful.
