The 7th Scribes Kenya end-year party brought together journalists and communication professionals over the weekend in a spirited celebration of resilience and innovation.
Hosted at the upscale LB Lounge in Kimuka, Ngong, Kajiado County, the event marked a fitting close to 2024.
The evening featured moments of reflection, lively entertainment, and camaraderie. Guests enjoyed the festive ambiance, highlighted by the aroma of expertly grilled Maasai nyama choma, endless drinks and pulsating music that energized the dance floor.
A standout moment of the night was the recognition of Mr Suleiman Mbatiah, the Nakuru region Mt Kenya Times correspondent, who was named Scribe of the Year 2024.
Mr Mbatiah was lauded for his exceptional contributions to digital journalism, showcasing resilience and creativity in navigating the rapidly evolving media landscape.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Mbatiah dedicated the award to media professionals who have overcome career challenges and embraced digital platforms to redefine their craft.
“The future of journalism is digital,” he noted, adding that the future was already with us. “We must adapt to connect with audiences in ways that engage, inform, and inspire.”
Scribes Kenya President Roncliffe Odit commended Mbatiah and other trailblazers for their innovative approaches. He underscored the importance of embracing change to ensure journalism remains relevant in the modern era.
The gathering also drew prominent figures in the media and communication industry, including Kameme TV’s Agnes Nonsizi, Radio Maisha’s Billy Miya, BBC’s Phylis Mwatee and Sarafina Robi, and K24’s Busara Naaman. Judiciary communications officer Zakheem Rajan and Egerton Radio’s Kioko wa Kivandi were among other notable attendees who graced the occasion.
The event was a celebration of the triumphs of 2024 and a rallying call for continued excellence in the year ahead. As journalists and communication professionals mingled, danced, and shared their achievements, the evening stood as a testament to the enduring spirit of the media fraternity.
