Kapseret constituency MP Oscar Sudi
Kenya’s Parliament has faced ongoing criticism regarding the performance and participation of Members of Parliament (MPs), with many lawmakers, including high-profile figures like Oscar Sudi, receiving scrutiny for their frequent absenteeism and lack of active engagement in parliamentary activities. The issue of MPs failing to attend sessions or engage in critical legislative work has been a recurrent problem that affects the efficiency of the legislative process in the country.
Oscar Sudi, the MP for Kapseret constituency, is one of the MPs who has been involved in numerous controversies regarding his non-participation in parliamentary duties. Although known for his vocal stance on various national issues, Sudi’s attendance in parliamentary sessions has been inconsistent, and he has often been absent during key debates and votes. His lack of participation has drawn criticism from both his constituents and political analysts, who argue that it undermines the legislative process and hampers progress on vital issues that affect the nation. Sudi, however, has defended his absences, citing his involvement in other public service activities and constituency engagements.
The issue of absenteeism is not unique to Sudi, as several other MPs have also been criticized for not fulfilling their parliamentary duties. Many have been accused of prioritizing personal or political interests over their responsibilities to their constituents and the country. Some MPs are regularly absent from sittings, even during debates on critical issues like budget approvals, national security, and social welfare.
This non-participation is detrimental to the functioning of Parliament, leading to delays in lawmaking and missed opportunities for addressing pressing national concerns. Moreover, the lack of accountability from MPs contributes to the public’s growing disillusionment with Kenya’s political system. As Parliament works to address these challenges, it is clear that improving attendance and active participation is essential for restoring the institution’s credibility and effectiveness and also this helps on them airing out the voice of the people in there various constituency .
