Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, addressing a leadership forum at the Kwale Cultural Amphitheatre, stressed the importance of resolving land disputes to create a favourable environment for investment. Mvurya announced plans for the national government to collaborate with Kwale County in tackling the persistent issue of land grabbing, including resolving absentee landlord cases and issuing title deeds to rightful owners. Matters concerning absentee landlords must be resolved to identify rightful owners and issue them with title deeds,” said Mvurya, highlighting the importance of secure land ownership for investor confidence. The CS reiterated that land plays a critical role in the socio-economic development of any country and urged the county leadership to pay attention to land grabbing so that the livelihoods of the people are not undermined.
As the New Year begins, Nanyuki GK prison officers have been urged to redouble their efforts in serving inmates more effectively this year. Senior Superintendent of Prisons Martin Okoko acknowledged the challenges faced by officers over the past year, emphasising the importance of renewed focus and commitment as the new year begins. He encouraged officers to adopt practices that enhance their personal and professional growth, including better financial management, which he highlighted as a common challenge for many.
Superintendent Mary Mutabari, who oversees the Nanyuki Women’s Prison, also called on officers to maintain a positive mindset to boost morale and foster career advancement.
Director of Legal Services of the National Biosafety Authority, Moses Sande, has stated that BT maize is prepared with high expertise to kill pests and diseases, such as the maize stalk borer and the fall armyworm. The BT maize variety is expected to be a noticeable difference when conventional maize is attacked by pests and diseases. “We have a pest called the maize stalk borer, which attacks the stem of the maize and destroys the maize completely. We also have the fall armyworms. So the BT maize has been prepared with high expertise such that the stalk borer and the fall armyworms will be killed once they feed on that maize,” said Sande.
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya yesterday hosted opposition leaders, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Ferdinand Waititu and Matungulu MP Stephen Mule at his Kisumu Ndogo home before gracing a football tournament. The leaders praised their host for standing for the truth and his desire to empower Mumias East’s youth.
