It was a day of joy and relief for 28 mothers at Pumwani Maternity Hospital after Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja cleared their outstanding hospital bills totaling Ksh 420,000. The compassionate gesture ensured that the new mothers could reunite with their families without the burden of financial strain.
The hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Christine Kiteshu, expressed profound gratitude to Governor Sakaja for his timely intervention. She praised his unwavering commitment to supporting vulnerable families and underscored the importance of prioritizing maternal and child health.
“We are deeply thankful to His Excellency Governor Sakaja for this kind gesture. It demonstrates his dedication to ensuring access to quality healthcare for all Nairobians. Pumwani Maternity Hospital remains committed to delivering top-notch services to every mother and child,” said Kiteshu.
The mothers, some of whom had faced the prospect of prolonged stays due to their inability to clear medical bills, shared their heartfelt appreciation. Many described the Governor’s act of kindness as a lifeline during a challenging time.
This initiative aligns with Governor Sakaja’s broader agenda to enhance healthcare services in Nairobi, particularly for the underserved. It is a testament to his administration’s efforts to make quality healthcare accessible and affordable for all.
As the mothers leave the hospital with their newborns in their arms and smiles on their faces, this act of goodwill serves as a reminder of the impact of leadership that puts people first.
